The Rapture of the Church
After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.1 Thessalonians 4:17
Jesus Will Return
Jesus will return to take up his church, also known as The Rapture. Some believe that believers will face a time called The Great Tribulation, right along with the rest of the world, which is something that is not currently being taught in most of the churches. Back in the early church, the fathers taught that the church (believers) would go through the tribulation. It wasn’t until the early 1800’s that the “pre-tribulation” rapture began to be taught, and it was said to have been because of a pastor named John Darby. Stories claim that the concept was manufactured due to a dream that an 18 year old Plymouth Brethren girl had. She told the dream to her Pastor John Darby, who then in turn relayed it to C. I. Scofield, who bought into the dream as being ‘revealed truth’. Scofield placed this pre-tribulation rapture notion as a footnote in his popular Bible, hence the spread of a myth? Not necessarily.
It is true that many false teachers will rise up on the earth, so don’t let yourselves be deceived by false doctrine. Prepare yourselves with the truth of God’s Word. The enemy is a very subtle creature. He will allow you to think that his thoughts are your very own. Test the spirits. Let the Holy Spirit guide you in all that you do; whether it is reading your bible, witnessing to the lost, or teaching your own loved ones. Open your hearts and minds to God and search for His Truth, not the truths of men.
The Day and Hour Unknown as Quoted from Matthew 24:36-41
36 “No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 37 As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39 and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 40 Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left.”
Scripture teaches us that Jesus will take up His Church (The Bride of Christ) at the last trumpet, which some believe to be the 7th trumpet of Revelation 11; but because we believe that the Lord will come before that point, that viewpoint just does not make sense. It says in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 “13 Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. 14 We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. 15 According to the Lord’s own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 18 Therefore encourage each other with these words.”
You see, the last trumpet does not appear to be the 7th trumpet sounded by the angel in Revelation at all, but will be the actual Trumpet call of God Himself; and will be the last call on earth for first the dead in Christ to rise and then the Bride, to assemble and meet the Lord in the air; which will then usher in the the Great Tribulation. Throughout the Bible, the trumpet was used for various events: to make an announcement, used for celebration, used as a warning or alarm, was a battle cry and was also an assembly call for God’s people. In Numbers 10:2 while the Israelites were still wandering aimlessly in the desert, God said to Moses: “Make two trumpets of hammered silver, and use them for calling the community together and for having the camps set out”. Trumpets were used to call and assemble God’s people as a community and was also a signal to alert them that something was about to happen, which is basically what should take place in the rapture.
